We made 2 trips up to Vermont this summer. The first was a motocycle trip to visit Greg, Jess, Flint and Janet who rented a house in Vermont for a week to do downhill biking. It's cool that the ski slopes turn into biking venues during the summer - you bring your bikes up on the ski lift and there are different levels of trails that get you around and finally down to the bottom... to start all over again.
On the second trip (a car trip) we visited Chuck, Laura and Jane on the way up and then in Vermont stayed with Cynthia, our buddy from teaching in Azerbaijan. She works at the Vermont Academy, an old school located in a beautiful setting in a small Vermont village. They have kids from all over the world and its really a family atmosphere as most kids live, eat, and play on campus. There are even taps for the maple trees to make syrup, and a ski jump, admist the other more traditional buildings. During this time we get to try out our new hiking poles and do a couple of days of hiking - one as part of the Long Trail up to and around a small lake. Then another day up a mountain with spectacular views from the top - I was feeling pretty maxed out with the steep up and down of the hike, but there were youngsters jogging by with ease - oh youth! A tour of an an old meeting house makes us shutter to imagine 6 hours sermons in an unheated building! As we post some photos on Facebook, a friend from our Zambia days writes and says - hey we are only a couple hours north of where you are - come on up! So we spend a lovely day and night with Scott, Kim and their girls. We love Vermont!!
