Bloco Malagasy 'Stand up for Women's Empowerment'
|
As part of their Asian tour, these girls from Madagascar gave a high energy drumming performance in Phnom Penh. The Bloco Malagasy is an exclusively female afro-brazilian percussion band who promote female independence and education for all. They strive to raise awareness about the importance of women and gender equality in economically and socially developing countries, aiming to fight for a fair world. On a very hot day, they gave their all with energy and smiles.

Phnom Chiso
12 expats boarded a hired minivan (with air-conditioning - yay!!!!) for a day of sightseeing around the area outside of Phnom Penh. Phnom Chiso is a 100 m high solitary hill with a temple of the Angkorian era (11th century) on top of it. 400 steps lead up to the temple area and from the top of the hill you get views of the surrounding valley. When you see something like this, it boggles the mind to imagine HOW it was constructed so long ago and how it has lasted so long throughout the years. Who designed it, where did all the stones come from, who did all the carvings, who hauled all the stones up the hill - it begs many questions.
We made a short stop to the nearby To Prohm temple of the same era.
Then it was lunch on the Tonie Bati lake. There were a series of outdoor, on the water eating platforms. It was lovely to relax by the lake and feel a bit of breeze come through. It was a long wait and mediocre lunch, but the ambience was fine.
