Long Island and Connecticut
Ahh, summertime! Family picnics, biking, hiking, beaching, boating, berry-picking, ferry rides, kite flying, parades, old car show, Montauk Point, house organizing, painting the blue room, a trip to NYC to see Judy, watching the grandson grow... A group of my dad's former Calculus class on the island for a 40th reunion make a special stop to see my dad and let him know the impact that his teaching had on their lives - pretty nice! This year we got to go on a tour of Plum Island, a strictly monitored facility where they do research on animal diseases. Bob works there and this is an annual event that is open to employees and guests. It's fascinating to tour the island which includes remnants of an old fort, coastal watch bunkers from WWII, modern facilities, on a beautiful wild island lush with plants, and even seals along the shore.
