SINGAPORE: APPLE DISTIGUISHED EDUCATOR TRAINING, DEC. 2008
A week at the Apple Computer Distinguished Educator Training. Ann and fellow teacher Amy arrive in Singapore to marvel at the orderliness of the country - why, they even drive within the lanes and follow the traffic rules and lights!! (So different from China.) It’s green, lush, hot and humid!!
Our resort is beautiful - on the beach at Sentosa island, but our schedule for the next 5 days looks as if we’ll have little leisure time to enjoy it!
The next 5 days sees us involved with teaching, technology, projects, new ideas, sharing resources, innovations, new ways of sharing and communicating, traveling around the city, eating at different places and we find ourselves working until late at night and then up early the next morning. It’s a whirlwind of activity!!
One of our projects has us traveling around Singapore, interviewing people of various backgrounds to find out about the immigrant experience there. We talk to a restaurant waiter from India, carpet salesmen from Iran, shop attendants from China, textile saleswomen from Malaysia and more. Each has their own story and history about how they or their families got to Singapore - overwhelming commonalities between them point to Singapore as a very safe country with racial harmony. They must be doing something right!
We come home exhausted but exhilarated with enough ideas and things to explore for a long time.
