MOTORCYCLE TRIP NEW ENGLAND - & - LONG ISLAND MISCELLANEOUS: 2009

Summertime and the livin’ is easy! It’s definitely a 2 wheeled summer as we ride our first Long Island motorcycle as well as our road bikes. Add in friends, family, food, boating and it makes for a great vacation.

Billy has purchased a 2004 K1200GT BMW motorcycle in PA while he is in China - how’s that for long distance communication! Ann’s brothers Richard and Bob collect the bike and give us the thumbs up that it is indeed a good purchase. Good bike, meticulously maintained...

The first part of the summer sees us figuring out how to maneuver this beast around the roads - actually Billy does the maneuvering, Ann just hangs on the back. We find that one purchase leads to another as we accumulate all the necessary clothing and accessories.

Finally, we leave with Bob and Darice for a week’s holiday on the roads of New England (north east US). Once we are across the LI Sound on a ferry and up a ways, the crowded roads thin out and the scenery opens up. Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Vermont, Maine - each with its own unique beauty. We ride along rivers, through mountains, around lakes and along the coast.

Another 5 day trip sees us visiting Billy’s brother in upstate New York and again, once we get beyond the crowded east coast the roads are a biker’s dream. In spite of the rainy summer, we have good luck and only run into light rain for part of one day.

Back at the Long Island home we ease into days of pedal bike riding, visiting with family and friends, and enjoying all the choices at the local super markets!
