Super-Blue-Blood Moon Eclipse
On January 31st 2018 the moon was a wonderous sight to see! It was a supermoon with the moon appearing slightly bigger and brighter than usual due to its closeness to Earth. The blue moon means that it was the second full moon of the month - hence the expression "once in a blue moon." The supermoon passed through the Earth's shadow casting a reddish hue on the lunar surface which is why it was called a blood moon.
It was a COLD and WINDY morning at about 6:00 before sunrise when we were on the beach of the Long Island Sound near our house. On the east coast of the US (where we are) the moon set, or in our case disappeared into the water, before the eclipse was total - but we still got some great shots. Some of the photos were taken with a Nikon Coolpix P510 on a tripod on full zoom, while others were taken with iPhones 6 and 8.
