This year Billy is head of Appleridge Townhomes which has taken a lot of effort this year, Ann is on the board of the Bike Hub and does their monthly newsletter, Billy is the Outreach Coordinator for the Green Mountain Club, Ann works on the website and newsletter for the GMC. We both unload trucks for the food kitchen, pick up weekly donations from Walmart, and Ann works once a week at distribution. We built inserts for Window Dressers and helped at the Empty Bowls event. In addition there are all of our outdoor pursuits, hiking, skiing, snowshoeing, lots of trail maintenance, as well as visiting and being with friends & family.
I'm sure I've forgotten things from the list below, but it has been a truly wonderful year!
January saw skiing and hiking, redoing kitchen and bathroom flooring in a condo, building benches in a hiking reserve, hiking in our first snow squall.
March still had skiing, then hikes and or snowhoes in Tibetts, Harmon Hill, Bald Mt, BATS, Greenberg, Mt Anthony, Equinox, Bolles Brook, a museum trip, cat sitting for Ren.
April had bear tracks in the snow, trail work on Harmon Hill, trip to LI to see family and to NYC to see Scott and Ilona including delicious Thai food, a trip to the Museum of Natural History. There was a hike in Woodford, a Wildflower walk, and a Snowhole hike (area of deep cavern where the snow doesn't melt).
May we attempted a hike in Tannery Falls but was rained out. There was an early morning bird walk, Billy started seedlings, we cleared blow-downs on Bald Mt trail, and then did our CT River Canoe Trip.(Canoe Trip)
June was condo renovation month putting in new flooring and painting in Unit #39 - it came out great! There was a hike to Owl's head and Spruce Hill, along with some tennis. A trip to see the new home in CT and meet up with an old high school friend on LI.
July included a trip to bring the renovated sign-in box to Harmon Hill, a trip to Mt Anthony lookout, Ashuwillticook bike trail, Champlain bike trail, more tennis, museum trip, Greenberg dedication, trip to LI, Zim Smith bike trail, volunteer on trail crew to move huge rocks and build stepping stone https://www.benningtongmc.org/outreach/pot-luck-and-trail-maintenance-presentation, first marijuana crop, Trail Fest, new Bike Hub mural, garden growing.
August we did the first half of our Erie Canal Bike Trip, (Erie Canal Bike Trip Part 1) then joined Ham and Lorna at South Lake in the Adirondacks, then flew to the west coast to see family there. (West Coast) The tomatoes kept coming and coming!
September we finished our west coast trip and did the second half of the Erie Canal Bike Trip (Erie Canal Bike Trip Part 2). We did a road trip to Indiana to see Liz, Andy, Kate, Zeke and Gabriele. We saw our first "Bin Store" where unsold items have one last chance at life as they are piled into huge bins which people sort through - they are all one price - more expensive the first day, decreasing prices over the week until the bins are changed again and unfortunately the remainder goes to the land fill. We had lots of good food and good visiting. Bob came up to visit and we took him to the Mt Anthony lookout and along Bolles' Brook. Ann went to CT to visit family, look at old photo albums and took Flint on the "2 Gramma Bike Ride".
October Lorne Currier from the Green Mountain Club HQ came down and gave a workshop on trail maintenance, then put our knowledge to work on the Long Trail. We hiked to Bromley Mt and had Nancy's super delicious bread, harvested chilis, then did the Little River/Stowe trip. (Little River) Fall color is always beautiful!
November we led a hike around, up and over Mt Anthony, hiked up to the West Ridge, went to LI to see Ann's buddies Liz and Judy, hiked the Hopper trail on Greylock, gave a presentation with Barb & Robin at the GMC Potluck, then buzzed down to LI for some huge winds and Roger's retirement party - best retirement party ever! The first ski on Prospect.
